The Good Kettle is lovely little shop conveniently located on Rte One. Situated between Belfast and Bucksport it is an ideal place to stop for a few tasty provisions on your way up and down the beautiful Maine Coast. They offer a variety of hearty sandwiches (on locally baked Borealis bread), picnic lunches, homemade marmalades and jams, soups, baked goods, and home-style frozen entrees for those nights when you need a healthy meal quick. They also boast a variety of carefully selected wines, beers, and cheeses from near and far. And don't forget about dessert - pick up a few pints of Stone Fox Farm Creamery's finest ice cream (I recommend the Dulce de Leche or Pumpkin Ginger this time of year). We visited on a recent Sunday and were warmly greeted by the proprietress. I had a hot cup of spiced cider and a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich on a freshly baked salt bagel (bagels are available every Sunday). They recently opened a dining area in the back room and it is super cozy with a little stove where we were able eat our breakfast. On our way out, we snagged a couple cider donuts and a carrot muffin (which turned out to be delicious especially with the little smear of cream cheese frosting on top). So next time you're on your way up to Acadia, plan to pop in at the Good Kettle! Or even better call ahead and and order up a delicious picnic lunch - historic Fort Knox is just up the road a spell and is the perfect place for a picnic!

Great stop for lunch while checking out the local attractions. We enjoyed the sandwiches, lobster rolls, and soup. Everything made fresh and made well. Has beer and wine but can only consume outside.

What a delightful place! The menu is even more delicious than I expected (for incredibly reasonable prices), the service was kind and friendly, and the ambience and selection of local art kept me there an hour extra as I had to explore it all. The Good Kettle is a roadside gem.

The Good Kettle has a really nice variety, we have always had good lunch here and we love the fact that we can come by and get lasagna or soup to take home for dinner when we don't want to cook a meal after work. I love going by in the morning on my way to work to get a scone, a breakfast sandwich and a cup of coffee. And, we are really happy to have a place we can get a nice bottle of wine or a good beer to take home too. As someone who lives close by, it is great to have a place that has tasty food and nice wine and beer selections so close to us.

On a day trip to the Maine coast, we decided to pick up some sandwiches and enjoy them at Fort Point State Park. After reading the only other review on The Good Kettle, we decided to try it - and were very disappointed. First the good - the shop is a nice little one that has an interesting variety of wines, beers, and just enough variety of those cute little jams and salsa that makes on think, "This could be someplace special." The person who waited on us was very friendly (I think he is the wine manager) and the place has a good atmosphere. So we ordered our sandwiches to go and appreciated the option of carrot sticks instead of chips. Cost about $17 for 2 sandwiches, we didn't need any beverages or other snacks. When we got to the park, we were both surprised at the small size of the sandwiches and fillings. In spite of their lovely descriptions on the menu, we found the taste to be only average at best. The bread was good and can be purchased at any grocery store in Maine, so what we were hoping for was a filling to equal, and it did not. As for the carrot sticks? There were 3 little 3" pieces that looked like they cut a stick into eights. Pretty skimpy, for sure. Next outing for us, we will find another place to pick up sandwiches - there are lots of them along Route 1 - and we will definitely pass on the Good Kettle. Would recommend others consider doing the same.

Perfect place to stop for soup and sandwiches not too mention a nice bottle of wine. My wife and I love to get a couple of sandwiches and head over to Fort Point State Park nearby in Stockton Springs and have a quiet picnic by the lighthouse. It really doesn't get much better.

Superb crab pie with salad. The owner waited for me to come in after hours for takeout. The pie was loaded with fresh sweet crabmeat. The salad was right from the garden. I will be back.

The mid coast of Maine along the Route 1 corridor offers many dining opportunities. From fried fish & lobster to Thai noodles & Asian buffets. But for a real treat plan a stop at The Good Kettle. It's beyond good. It's great! You will order from the front register and your food will be brought to your table. The sandwiches are excellent. I had the Verona Island, a sort of local variation on a Rubin. It was perfect. Soups were amazing. The clam chowder (New England of course) was awesome as was the haddock chowder. Both were full of fish/clams and were not artificially thickened. The kale soup had a little too much thyme for my taste but was loaded with kale and white beans. If you don't know what to order, ask Meghan at the register. She knows that menu inside & out and won't steer you wrong. Most of the of desserts are made in house and they were very good. I kept it simple and had oatmeal raisin cookies. Tasted like homemade by mom. What more can I say? The prices were reasonable and the food was honest and unpretentious. A wall of wine but you can't drink it there. Why? Because the State of Maine says so.

Stopped in here on our way home based on a reliable recommendation and were instantly engaged in a pleasant, welcoming conversation with the proprietor. We ordered a couple of sandwiches, which we ate in the adjoining dining room. I had a roast beef sandwich, which was pretty good if not very big. I was impressed by their selection of wine and local beers (which you cannot drink there). I always prefer a well-made sandwich from a local to fast food whenever I travel and can find it and this certainly hit the spot.

Great little stop on Rte 1. Delicious sandwiches, offered to make a mini bite of something for my toddler who was falling asleep (no official kids menu). No complaints, clean and quaint facilities, cozy art, checkers/scrabble while you wait ( not very long ) and delicious local made ice cream. Well worth the stop!

Sweet spot! Warm, friendly folks. Great wine and cheese, yummy sandwiches, fabulous ice cream, and awesome brownies. As good as this list is, however, the clam chowder and crab pie are out of this world. Run, don't walk, to the Good Kettle!

I stopped into The Good Kettle after after a morning at Fort Knox State Park. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was on my way back to Augusta and had been positively reviewed by my Yelp friend, Caitlin C. The sandwich descriptions were mouth watering and I opted to go with the Stockton Springs (I was curious to see how red grapes were incorporated with chicken salad). They make their sandwiches with Borealis Breads, a true Maine favorite, so I couldn't have been any happier. The Good Kettle makes almost everything on their own except for their bread and ice cream (Stone Fox Farm Creamery - another favorite!). The place is very quaint, and I couldn't have been happier with my visit. Next time I will be trying the soup and picking up a bottle of wine.

Swing in on our way south, in need of sustenance. There's definitely creativity in the collection of sandwiches available and it's a very sweet Maine style space. The woman who was keeping shop was very pleasant and invited us to the wine tasting later that night. The sandwiches were tasty but definitely a little pricey for their size and although they sold better quality chips in the store, came with a small bag of lays.
